Echoes from Emmanuel, Vol. 2 – Nos. 6-8

Parson to Person by Pastor Eckman, July 1978:

Summer is a wonderful time. There are vacations to be enjoyed, warm weather sports to participate in, lawns and gardens to care for, and days away from school to be spent in leisure time and work. However, the wonderful days of summer are quickly passing and fall is approaching. Jeremiah the prophet writes in Jer. 8:20 – “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” Often there are things we plan to accomplish during the summer that are never finished. The summer passes rapidly and soon the winter is upon us again and it’s too late to carry out our plans. Life is compared to the summer and the harvest in Jeremiah. Many people say in the summer of their lives, I’ll get right with God soon, I’ll accept Christ as Savior in a couple of years. I’ll live for the Lord when I get older. The summer years of life slip by and the harvest is complete and we stand before God plainly aware of the fact that we never took time to do the most important things of all of life, to choose Christ as our own personal Savior. The summertime of your life is rapidly passing, when will you decide to receive Christ? 2 Corinthians 6:2b reads: “Behold now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation.” If there’s never been a definite time in your life when you’ve called upon the Lord Jesus Christ and asked Him to save you, do it now. Romans 10:13 – “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Testimony by Brenda Hale, August, 1978:

Hi, I’m 16 years old and in 1976 I took the most important step in my life. I was saved right after a church service. I am so glad for that day and that I did not put off my salvation. I praise the Lord for my Christian brother, Dennis. He played a great part in my getting saved and now he is even a greater help in my spiritual growth. My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Missions by Peggy Wright, July 1978:

One of our newest missionary families is the Wittenbergers, James, Beth, Joshua & Rachel. James & Beth completed schooling at the Grand Rapids School of Bible & Music, Miching in 1977. Since that time, they have been in preparation for God’s calling to missions work in Liberia, Africa. They have not yet been to the continent of Africa but are presently engaged in deputation work. They have visited 61 individual churches in four states to gain financial & prayer support. They tell us a large 3 bedroom house in Liberia awaits them! Jim and Beth are asking us to pray for their health, strength, wisdom and safety in travel and possible helicopter training to reach the densely foliaged areas of Libera. Their love is for the people in Africa who practice animism and the Islam faith. Animism is the belief that ALL objects have a personality or consciousness. This leads to Godless worship of objects and ancestors. Islam faith uses the Koran book rather than the Holy Bible. Their prophet is Mohammed. They believe Jesus to be only another prophet preceeding Mohammed rather than Lord, Son of God and Savior.

Ladies’ Fellowship by Nancy Chally, July 1978:

The ladies met at the church on Monday, June 5th. We opened with prayer and songs. The ladies brought along containers and flowers and Mrs. Kjosa gave pointers to each of us on the art of flower arrangements. In our prayer time we brought our petitions and praise before the Lord. Grace Olivas gave the devotion on the spiritual and physical heart. It was an especially lovely devotion. We had refreshments which were provided by the hostess. Our next meeting will be the 2nd Monday in July at the home of Nancy Chally. There will be a cake decorating demonstration. Come & bring a friend.

My quiet time each day should be
With just my Jesus, His Book and me.
I need the time alone to pray
For strength and guidance thru each day.

But I also need to take the time
To thank Him for all friends of mine.
So once each month it's worth the trip
To be sure I'm at the ladies fellowship.
