They didn’t misunderstand the nature of the kingdom, nor were they wrong to look forward to it with great anticipation. Their mistake was in expecting it to dawn immediately upon Jesus’ arrival at Jerusalem.
Instead of seeking solace in the company of family that love him and want the best for him, the young person is encouraged to seek out a new community rooted, not in love and the fear of Yahweh, but in shared rebellion against the Creator’s design for human identity and sex.
Children belong to God who created them and entrusted them to their parents. Each child is an image-bearer of God, and parents will one day stand before the Lord and give account of our stewardship.
Our goal should not be to build a lasting legacy among men but to earn the praise of our Master, because we have been found faithful.
The summer years of life slip by and the harvest is complete and we stand before God plainly aware of the fact that we never took time to do the most important things of all of life, to choose Christ as our own personal Savior.
