Philippians 4:7 – And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Peace. True, lasting, meaningful peace is a goal that is sought in many different ways by all mankind, yet it is found only in one place. This hope is the culmination of Paul’s teaching in Philippians 4:4-7. The end result of the believer’s commitment to rejoicing in the Lord, pursuing gentleness and peace with all men, watching for Christ’s return, and prayerfully trusting God to meet every need is a peace which goes far beyond our ability to even imagine which protects the believer’s heart and mind by the power of the King.
The peace of God is like a sentinel charged with keeping guard over our hearts and minds, patrolling before our heart’s door to keep worry and fear out. Would you like this kind of peace today? Then you must focus your heart and mind on the Lord, delighting in him and seeking his will through continual prayer. As we wait patiently for his return, we will find that he brings a settled confidence to our hearts, so that we can endure all things without wavering.
Today, ask the Lord to guard your heart against fear and the temptation to look away from Christ Jesus our Lord. Meditate on his boundless love from which nothing, not even death, can separate you.
