Instead of seeking solace in the company of family that love him and want the best for him, the young person is encouraged to seek out a new community rooted, not in love and the fear of Yahweh, but in shared rebellion against the Creator’s design for human identity and sex.
Children belong to God who created them and entrusted them to their parents. Each child is an image-bearer of God, and parents will one day stand before the Lord and give account of our stewardship.
If a parent’s authority is derived from his greater physical strength, then it is merely rule by force. If such is the only basis for authority, then one could reasonably conclude that the state has greater authority than parents over their children because the state is more powerful and has greater resources to compel obedience.
