Preacher Feature by Pastor Eckman:
One decade and 3 years ago God led this preacher into Emmanuel Baptist Church and what a privilege has been mine to serve the Lord here. As I look back over 13 years of ministry, I realize that I have not always had clear cut goals for our people. May I take this brief opportunity to go on record stating what I as the Pastor of these people have as goals:
- To guide each person to place his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior & Lord – Romans 10:9
- To endeavor to build Christ’s character into individuals, marriages, and families – Colossians 1:28-29
- To teach every man how to delight in and meet the needs of his wife – Ephesians 5:25
- To teach every wife how to meet the needs of her husband – Titus 2:4-5
- To turn the hearts of fathers to their children that they might teach them scriptural principles – Malachi 4:6
- To apply God’s principles of finances in our families and church – Malachi 3:10; Luke 16:11-12
- To teach each Christian to be responsible and to edify one another – Ephesians 5:19
May I clarify that I do not mean to imply that I am presently fulfilling each of these, but by God’s assistance I will endeavor to. I need your prayers.
Membership Spotlight by Jan Clement:
July was a month of celebration and fireworks. Peggy Shaul is our Sparkler for now! She is married to our head usher, Bill Shaul, and was born and raised in Elkhorn. September 13, 1978 is an important date for Peggy as that was when she accepted Christ as her Savior. It was under the preaching of Don Camp at Calvary Baptist in Watertown. She came to Emmanuel through Marge Pinne and her husband, Bill.
Peggy’s verse (favorite) is Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of god, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Her favorite hymns are: “It Is Well With My Soul” and “He Could Have Called Ten Thousand Angels”. Her favorite Bible characters are Paul & Moses.
Lord, teach me the art of taking minute vacations – of slowing down to look at a flower, to chat with a friend, to pat a dog, but most importantly, to read from Your Word and obey it.
Senior Conquerors by Harry Clement:
Time sure is flying by. The camping program at Chetek is almost over. The week of July 20th was Senior High week and five youth from Emmanuel, Pastor Eckman, and myself went. It was an exciting week for the youth.
On July 19th the Senior High youth went to Shorewood Nursing Home in Williams Bay. They spent about an hour there with the residents. The young people sang hymns for a while and a message was given. Some of the girls baked cookies which were served to each one at the home. Our purpose for going was to share with the residents what Jesus Christ can do for them in their lives. The adults received a blessing and so did the youth.
Toddler’s Church by Linda Clement:
Dear Parents,
It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter. It is the last time I will be writing for Echoes from Emmanuel. On August 11th, I will be moving to Tempe, Arizona, where I have taken a teaching position at Tri-City Christian Academy.
When I look back over my years here at Emmanuel, I have much for which to thank the Lord. So many people have influenced my Christian life. Some who deserve a special thanks are Pastor and LaVonne, Marge Pinne, Jan Kraft, the Pratis family, Mrs. Lil Wentar and Dawn and the list could go on and on. But most of all, are the children who have been in my classes. I have learned so much from them, probably much more than I was able to teach them.
So, even though the Lord has led me far away from Emmanuel, I am taking much of it with me. I love all of you with a special kinship found only among believers. The Toddlers will always hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to the time when I can see them out in the harvest field for the Lord Jesus Christ.

News from the Pews by Pastor:
- We welcome Bill and Fran Pratt into our church family. They and their 2 year old daughter, Emily, moved here from West Bend where Bill took up the position of Administrator of the Walworth County Home.
- July 15, 1980 at 8:30 AM marked the grand entry of Paul Kurtis Knebel, 8 lbs. 15Oz, second son and third child of Paul and Denise Knebel.
- The Pensacola Christian College Ensemble was here July 17th. Five young people and one staff member shared some inspiring musical packages. An informative multi-media presentation of the school and a message from the staff member was given. Thanks to Brocks, Clements, Middletons, Pinnes, Eckmans, Olcotts, and Krafts for providing housing and meals.
- Missionary Kirk Riley, his wife, Phyllis, and their children, Justin, Rebecca, and Faith Ann challenged our hearts Sunday eve, July 13. The Rileys are involved in a teaching and church ministry in Nassau, Bahamas under Baptist International Missions, Inc.
- We were pleased with the recent visit from Trina Podgornik who came home after teaching for a year in a Christian school in Wheatland, Wyoming. She will be teaching in Tempe, Arizona this fall.
