We have recently had one wedding here at Emmanuel and are anxiously looking forward to another. What a joy it is to see two Christian young people joined together to serve Christ more effectively than they could serve Him individually. In counseling these youth, I make it clear that divorce is never a solution to marital problems. Too many people today marry for better or for worse, but not for good! Our Lord has said in Matthe 19:6 “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” The same God Who ordained marriage in Genesis 2:24 & 25 has the directions for a happy marriage plainly spelled out in His word. He has the solution to your specific problem. Marriage is either a “holy wedlock” or an “unholy deadlock.” Give God a chance in your marriage. Don’t follow the advice of those who prescribe an “escape route” – divorce.
Membership Spotlight by Jan Clement:
This month’s spotlight is on Marge Kammeraad – soon to be Mrs. Frank Pinne on Aug. 4th. She was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin and has lived here all her life. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Howard Kammeraad, now reside in Darien, Wisconsin. Her sisters, Julie & Janet, attend Emmanuel Baptist also.
Marge has known Christ as her Savior over nine years. She was saved when she was 12 at a youth activity at Gebhardt’s farm. Pastor Eckman led her to the Lord. She has been attending Emmanuel Baptist for 9 years. Her favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Her favorite Bible story is of Jonathan & David as it shows how important friendship is. Favorite song “Victory through Grace”
News from the Pews by Pastor Eckman:
- WEDDING BELLS rang for Bill Shaul and Peggy Ives here at Emmanuel Baptist as they became one at 1:30 PM Saturday, June 23. Mr. & Mrs. Shaul are working & residing in their apartment at 15 ½ South Lincoln in Elkhorn.
- NEW ARRIVAL. The Lord has blessed the home of Jan & Gregg Kraft with 6 lb. 8 ½ oz. 20 ½ inch Brandon Taylor. He was born in Highland Park Hospital at 8:45 AM on July 18th. He has been happily received by his 3 sisters: Adrian, Heather, and Charity.
- ATTENDANCE in Sunday School is up over a year ago. Int he last eight weeks we have averaged 120, whereas a year ago we averaged 103.
Ladies Fellowship by Evelyn Merry:
The July meeting was held at the home of LaVonne Eckman and a surprise bridal shower was given for Marge Kammeraad. No business was conducted and the whole evening was devoted to the shower. Irene Kjosa gave the devotional which was centered on marriage and the fact that marriage is not easy but it is possible to have a good one. The following scripture verses were given: Ephesians 5:22-24; Ephesians 4:26; Psalm 103:15; Proverbs 12:22; 15:1. Read & live these verses and your marriage will be blessed.

Thoughts:
- People, like rivers, become crooked from following the low places.
- Some people need repentance more than medicine.
- The Bible is usually not rejected because it is though to contradict itself, but because it contradicts the reader.
- Of all the aspects of our relationship with God, we probably fail most often in our worship. Many times this is because we do not understand what worship really is or we leave God’s presence without really “seeing” Him and offering the PRAISE and ADORATION of our hearts. William Temple said: “To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God; to feed the mind with the truth of God; to purge the imagination by the beauty of God; to open up the heart to the love of God; to devote the will to the purpose of God.”
Senior Conquerors by Ruth Yankee: (Grades 7-12)
This summer is “flying by” fast! Soon the fall will be here, and it’ll be back to school for most of us. Where does the time go? Well, certainly time waits for no one. But some ways to spend good, christian fellowshiping time is at our Saturday Evening youth activities, Sunday 6 PM youth training hour, and the once a month singspirations!
We had a tremendous turn-out for the Progressive Dinner riding bicycles from one home to another. This really gave us quite an appetite. Speaking of appetites, our spiritual appetite is very important to satisfy as well as our physical appetite. Reading God’s word, the Bible, daily, gives us the spiritual “food” needed to grow as Christians. We cannot expect to be nourished spiritually unless we “eat” God’s food.
Let’s encourage each other to come out to the coming up activities. August 4th is an evening of “Go-Karting” and the Youth Rally with Jerry & Roger is scheduled for August 16-18. They will have a special program for all the youth. Join us and bring your friends. You’ll be sure to receive a blessing.
